Introducing Hex Blocks Refractory Pier Blocks From TFL
Refractory pier blocks for heat treating furnaces are often overlooked, but they are an important part of proper furnace operations and the metal treatment process. TFL’s pier blocks have set the standard for many years with their long-lasting performance and durability, routinely out-performing others on the market. Our new HEX BLOCK design builds on that success, extending the life of your pier blocks even further!

The Advantages of HEX BLOCK from TFL
Unique Hexagonal Shape
The unique hexagonal shape adds to the life of the block, by effectively tripling the number of surfaces where work can rest. Once the top surface is worn, chipped off or becomes uneven, you simply rotate the HEX BLOCK to the next position, and a new unworn surface would be on the top. For heat-treaters who are concerned about maintaining a flat, even surface, this would greatly extend the service life of one block, easily doubling and possibly tripling the life when compared to the traditional rectangular or trapezoidal shapes used today.
Withstands Extreme Thermal Cycling
HEX BLOCKs are cast using our specially formulated, high-strength refractory castable that is designed specifically to withstand extreme thermal cycling. Thermal shock is one of the leading causes of pier block failure, resulting in premature cracking, and eventual destruction of the pier block.
Initial Controlled Firing
All of our pier blocks are fired in our furnaces prior to shipment. This controlled initial firing enables us to ensure that all the water from the refractory mix is released in a controlled manner, minimizing micro-cracking and maximizing the physical properties (and life) of the pier block.
Easy Transition
The HEX BLOCK can be made to match the height of your current pier blocks so that transitioning to a complete HEX BLOCK installation can be easily done.
